Shawshank redemption vs Paddington 2

According to the greatest movie of all time using score voting is Shawshank Redemption; According to RottenTomatoes the greatest movie of all time is Paddington 2. (It has the most fresh critic reviews with 205)

So as someone who doesn’t support score voting for government elections I want to concede that for rating movies score voting certainly provides better results since Shawshank redemption is way better than Paddington 2.

It might make more sense to compare movies across the same release year so they’ve had similar opportunities to gather scores and approvals, essentially treating each release year as an election.

For 1994, that would be Shawshank Redemption on IMDb (weighted average of 9.3/10 from 1,988,192 IMDb users) and The Lion King on Rotten Tomatoes (93%/113 approvals)—a much more reasonable comparison.

If you look at how those movies perform on the other service, Shawshank Redemption has a 91%/60 approvals on Rotten Tomatoes and is the #14 movie for 1994. The Lion King has a weighted average of 8.5/10 from 782,146 IMDb users and is the #3 movie for 1994 on IMDb.

IMDb also has a significantly larger voting pool, so I’d expect their results to be more stable and meaningful.
